About This Website

The Askability website was inspired by The Children's Society Solihull branch, after watching children at their project misunderstand the news about the war in Iraq. They decided that there was a need for a website which was presented entirely in symbol to enable children with learning disabilities to become informed about ongoing current affairs and also create a central forum for children to express their views and opinions. Below are more details about the people involved in making the Askability website become a reality.

Solutions Squared

Solutions Squared is a family run graphic design, web development and IT consultancy business in Kenilworth and has championed website accessibility for many years. As well as designing and building the Askability website the company also developed a symboliser component to integrate into their existing, Freedom Content Management System. The Children‘s Society can manage the content of the website and the system converts their words to symbol using Widgit’s symbol web service. Visit www.solutions-squared.com or call 01926 850084.

Widgit Software

Widgit Software works with many organisations, advocating the use of symbols as tools for participation and communication for people with learning disabilities. Widgit are dedicated to supporting people who use symbols to read and has created Widgit Literacy Symbols and the leading Symbol Software. The Askability website uses the Widgit's symbol database and web service to deliver its symbol content. Visit www.widgit.com or email symbols@widgit.com
